Vision

Oregon 4-H is a leader in creating learning experiences where Oregon youth and adults can build a true sense of self esteem and discover positive futures.

Values

History

4-H has been a national community education and service program in Oregon for 88 years. Its character is defined by its unique Mission, Values, and Vision, by its participants--youth members, adult volunteers, staff, and alumni--and by its programs, activities and events, and by it's long history of service, education and training.

Program Objectives

Provide educational programs to assist youth in developing appropriate life and technical skills for adulthood.

Provide volunteer and staff training to assist families and communities in developing sound educational programs for youth.

Activities

  • Develop educational programs for positive youth development.
  • Develop curricular materials to support educational programs.
  • Deliver organized youth development programs throughout Oregon.
  • Collaborate with other youth serving agencies.
  • Train 4-H volunteers to expand programs for youth.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of 4-H Youth Development Programs.

Functions

The primary function of the department is instruction, carried out through extended education, delivered to

Oregon youth and families through the state-wide Extension system. A secondary function is applied research conducted as part of the Extension program. In the future, there may also be opportunities to support academic training for individuals desiring employment in Extension youth development work.
