Goals and Objectives

Vision/Mission
Key Outcomes

The central goal of the overall Outreach project is to expand the participation of Latino children and families in educational programming that focuses on the development of knowledge, skills, and competencies that will lead to roles as participating, productive, and caring adults. Specific educational goals and objectives have been developed to further define this central goal as it applies to Polk County.

Goals

Local needs and assets analysis led to the development of two major goals relating to Outreach educational programming in Polk County. These goals are:

  • To increase the countywide capacity of the OSU Extension Service to deliver programs for youth and families and create an inclusive community.
  • To deliver programming that builds and enhances family relationships, reinforces cultural identities, and strengthens leadership and other life skills.

Objectives

Educational objectives and supporting activities specifically identify how the program goals will be locally addressed. Youth participating in Outreach programs in Polk County will be expected to:

  • Build their self-confidence and gain new knowledge, skills, and experiences.

Supporting activities: 4-H project clubs and activities related to youth interests-expressive arts, performing arts, technology, nutrition, nature, health, sports, and camps.

  • Enhance cultural awareness and strengthen cultural identify.

Supporting activities: Cultural arts and crafts; dance and music clubs; planning and participating in cultural activities and celebrations in the community; learning about issues that resonate in the Latino community; and working with mentors, teachers, leaders, and older youth who are role models in the Latino community.

  • Develop and strengthen leadership, service, and other life skills.

Supporting activities: Teaching and sharing what has been learned; taking on
responsibilities for planning, organizing, and implementing group activities; becoming involved in community projects and older youth leadership programs such as county 4-H Ambassadors and camp leadership club.

Capacity-building objectives are designed to develop and strengthen critical components for planning, creating, and delivering multicultural programs and opportunities that promote positive development for youth and families. These objectives, and their supporting activities, are:

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships among underserved audiences, service providers, and community organizations.

Supporting activities: 4-H project clubs and activities related to youth interests-expressive arts, performing arts, technology, nutrition, nature, health, sports, and camps.

  • Recruit and train ethnically representative adult and youth volunteers for involvement in multicultural programs and opportunities.

Supporting activities: Identify volunteer opportunities and outline responsibilities; develop a training program.

  • Involve youth and family members in program planning and delivery.

Supporting activities: Utilize youth and adults in program planning committees; incorporate input from program evaluations.
