Desription The idea for this book was born from contacts with colleagues and from findings in the scientific literature that important issues were being addressed by researchers with a methodology so faulty that it rendered the results uninterpretable or misleading. The authors hoped that by compiling in one place the experiences of various researchers in conducting studies with Latinos, future investigators would be able to address properly the methodological limitations that have plagued so much of the early writings on Latinos. Contains the experiences and suggestions of a large number of authors who have conducted research with Latinos.

Desription The report is divided into two volumes and highlights 11 family support programs that are serving one of the fastest growing groups in the US – the Latino population. The programs included in this report differ from each other both in terms of their structures and the types of families and communities served. Overall, these programs serve rural and urban communities, teen parents, and older parents, English and Spanish speakers, families of diverse ethnic backgrounds, and both immigrant and US-born families. They also represent a range of geographic areas in the US and vary in terms of sponsorship, goals, and services offered. The goal is to give readers a sense of both the commonalities and differences that exist among the families served, both within each program and across programs. Another goal is to provide information that will be used to improve programs and strengthen the services provided to culturally diverse communities.
