OSU Extension 4-H invites high school students in 8th-12th grade to join Environmental Leadership for Youth (ELY).

Outreach Leadership Institute (OLI) Part II | Youth Voices in Action

Youth attend the 4-day 4-H Outreach Leadership Institute (OLI ll)

Great Educational Opportunity “Youth Voices in Action/OLI ll”, hosted by the Oregon 4-H Program, is a statewide event for young people (grades 8 - 12) to share ideas, have fun, think critically, and apply new social media in civic engagement and more!  Teen facilitators at Youth Voices in Action will lead ten Issue Groups to address questions that Oregon agencies are concerned about. Issue Groups will create responses and presentations for those agencies.  During one day at the Oregon State Capitol building teen participants will talk to decision-makers, take photos, and ask questions during tours and workshops there. Moreover, teens will decide how to use their voices back home.

 

Outreach Leadership Institute (OLI) Part III "Career Exploration"

When: Friday May 17th 5:30 pm to Sunday May 19th  2019

The Oregon State University 4-H Program extends an invitation to 8th – 12th grade students to participate in OLI Part lll, career exploration and college oriented.

 This Institute is a series of conferences created to help students to reach their professional goals and dreams. We strive to motivate students to:

  • Finish high school and pursue postsecondary education
  • Develop leadership skills and serve their communities
  • Become successful and contributing members of this nation

Most importantly, meeting college students and professional role models. Let us come together to prepare our youth for the future!

 

Discover the Willamette Watershed - OSU Camp 2019

Youth attend 4-day residential training at the OSU campus with field trips

Four-day Residential Training at OSU with Willamette River Float Trip. Youth attend 4-day residential training at the OSU campus with field trips to various restoration sites and river float trip. Interactive session topics (with special emphasis on the Willamette Basin) will include “Leadership exercises”, “Watershed management and the role of watershed councils”, and “Economics of natural resources and sustainability including the value of outdoor environmental education”.

 During this intensive residential training, youth will learn about the ecology and history of the Willamette Basin during a one-day float trip in the river that will also include data and specimen collection. Materials collected will be used in subsequent lab study during residential visit to OSU. Willamette River Basin Atlas will be used as curriculum guide to include: 1) physical, 2) biological, and 3) human influences before and after Euro-American settlement.

 

4-H International Summer Camps

Youth in our program participate in at least one of the 4-H Summer Camps as Camp Counselors, or assistant.

These are residential Summer Camps where youth participate learning about postsecondary education and exploring different career options related to natural resources, technology, engineering, health professions, nutrition, education, culture, music, and developing leadership skill; and having fun playing different sports and cultural activities. Most importantly, meeting college students and professional role models. Let us come together to prepare our youth for the future!
