Oregon's Participation

Target Audiences

Adult volunteers are the target audience for attendance at the Western Regional 4-H Leaders Forum. Senior 4-H members (grades 10,11,12) who function in a leadership role in their 4-H club and/or on a countywide basis and Extension staff are encouraged to attend.

Scholarships for Volunteers

Partial travel scholarships are available for Oregon 4-H volunteers to attend. The scholarships are provided through the Oregon 4-H Leaders Association. Designated funds are equally distributed to volunteers who attend.

Registration Procedures

Registration packets are provided to each county Extension office in autumn each year before the forum. County Extension staff will submit registrations through the state 4-H office for the purpose of obtaining a travel scholarship.

The Western Region includes the following states, provinces and territories:

States
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming
Territories

History

The first Regional 4-H Volunteer Leader Forum was held in the Western Region in 1966, at Pacific Grove, California. The forum was a train-the-trainer program. Those who participated were expected to share what they learned with other volunteers in their home states and territories. Since that time forums have been developed in all four Extension regions across the nation. Each forum reflects the unique characteristics of its region. While there are many differences among the four regional forums, they share the same purpose: to equip participants with knowledge and skills they can apply in Extension 4-H programs.

Hosting

Oregon has hosted the Forum three times, in 1968, 1981 and again in 2003
