SOUTH KOREA—Summer Outbound Program

Experience South Korea! During the 4-week exchange program to South Korea delegates will live with a Korean host family and experience daily life in S. Korea as well as will get to participate in an arrival and departure orientation and cultural and sightseeing excursions in Seoul led by Korea 4-H, and will attend 4-H International Camp for 2-3 days where they will meet other foreign delegates and participate in cultural exchange activities. Delegates will be accompanied by an American chaperone to assist with travel and any in-country issues.

Program fee for 2017 is $2450.00 plus airfare (current airfare estimate is $1600-$2600 and is usually cheapest from the West Coast). Payment may be made in three parts.

The program/airfare fee includes

* Oregon orientation program and materials

* National pre-trip conference calls, orientation materials, t-shirts

* Orientations in a U. S. gateway city and Seoul, South Korea (double or higher occupancy based lodging) conducted by States' 4-H International and S. Korea 4-H

* Sightseeing and cultural excursions in Seoul

* In-Korea expenses: Transportation, meals, and lodging

* A portion of the adult chaperone expenses

* Accident & sickness insurance

* 4-H International Camp

* Administrative costs

* Roundtrip airfare from home state to South Korea

How to participate

Any youth, whether 4-H or non-4-H member, age 13-18 is eligible to apply (must be 13 by date of travel and not have started college).

Application packet due to Corvallis Office no later than November 30th and must include:

* Outbound Participant Application Form. The application includes a photo of the applicant, a 1-page essay, a letter of introduction to the host family, short answer questions, cultural project description, and comprehensive release.

* Participant Reference Form. Two references required: one from the County 4-H Agent and one from a non-relative adult such as a teacher or guidance counselor. If the agent does not know the applicant well enough, the applicant must schedule an interview with the agent. References should be collected in a sealed envelope or sent directly to Oregon 4-H Programs.

* Deposit: $1,000 check payable to: States' 4-H International Exchange Programs

* Scholarship application (optional)

Delegate application and selection process

All potential delegates will be interviewed between December 1st-12th. Applicants will be asked why they want to go to the country they have selected, what they hope to learn, how they plan to prepare for the trip, and other questions deemed appropriate by the State Coordinator.

Applicants will be notified the first part of January if they have been selected as an Oregon delegate to participate in the program and about any scholarship awards. Final selection of delegates for South Korea will be at the national level as there is a maximum number that the host country is able to accept.

* Medical Form completed by medical provider based on examination which occurs within one year of date of departure

*Copy of photo/signature pages of passport

Due by April 26:

* Final payment of program/airfare fees
