(for youth only)


2008 Outbound Program (US delegation to Norway)

Who is the abroad hosting organization?
4H Norge

Who is eligible?
High school delegates ages 16-19 (delegates must turn 16 by the date of travel)
Delegates who were selected and approved by their state coordinator.
All selected delegates and at least one parent are required to attend a state orientation.

What are the program dates?
June 30 - August 4, 2008 (includes departure orientation in Chicago)
Exact dates may change, but will remain from early-July to early-August

What is the program fee?
$2,000 plus the cost of roundtrip airfare from home state to Oslo via Chicago

What is included in the program fee?
Round trip airfare from home state to Oslo via Chicago
One or two-day group orientation in Chicago
Medical and accidental insurance
All meals
Three-week homestay with rural family in Norway
Transportation from Oslo to/from host family residence
Orientation materials, passport holder, luggage tags, etc.
One-week Nordic Camp. This annual event where 1000 Norwegian 4-H'ers come together will be very rustic (tents, communal restroom). The camp is located on the grounds of an old castle located near Trondheim on Norway's west coast. Delegates will have the opoporotunity to view Norway's great fjords!

Applications must be sent to the State 4-H Office postmarked by January 7, 2008. Late applications will not be accepted.

After applications have been processed, each applicant will be contacted to schedule an interview. Two people from the state staff will interview each applicant. The interview will take place over the phone, at the County Extension Office, as a conference call. Applicants will be asked why they want to go to the country they have selected, what they hope to learn, how they plan to prepare for the trip, and other questions deemed appropriate by the state coordinator. The student and the agent or county coordinator must be present for this interview. Parents are not permitted in the room during the interview. Interviews will be held the week of January 14, 2008.

After the interview, applicants will be notified no later than January 22 if they have been selected to participate in the program. Successful applicants will then receive the following material to complete and return. This material will be due by February 1:

    $500.00
