YA4-H!

The Youth Advocates for Health (YA4-H!) program engages teens as researchers, teachers, and health advocates to define, assess, and address health-related issues that are salient to youth in their communities.  YA4-H! prepares youth to conduct community-based research with a health focus, and to use the results of the research to educate others about, and advocate for, solutions to health related concerns at the community level.

In 2012, County YA4-H! teams will be focusing on three important efforts:

  1. Participating in a Statewide Community Assessment of school vending machines and access to fresh fruits and vegetables in local grocery stores
  2. Planning and delivering a Community Educational program for younger youth related to healthy living
  3. Planning and implementing a Youth Participatory Action Research project in their local community, that focuses on investigating a youth health concern and taking action based on what was learned through the research

County YA4-H! teams will share the progress of their project on the state YA4-H! website. Participating counties will receive a Sony Bloggie video camera for use in the project. Get a t-shirt and water bottle too!! Just plan to join in the fun!!!!

The YA4-H Program was made possible in 2011-2012 through a generous grant from the Walmart Foundation to National 4-H Council for the Youth Voice: Youth Choice program. Oregon is one of 15 states participating in this funding opportunity.
